asp.NET customization of web commerce site

This is a contract job. Please email me with offers of cost and time to complete.

Brief Summary:

Phase 1. (Phase 2 further development will be bid if work is done well)

customization of nopCommerce web commerce site for a digital printing business. Already have the design done in HTML+CSS but need that translated into nopCommerce auto-generated pages (aspx). This involves customization of nopCommerce pages in addition to using built-in themes options. Also design XML code to interact with on-site MIS system that reads XML files and automatically creates print jobs.

update shopping cart to AJAX or Silverlight controls that look better and do constant price updates when product options are selected, add in a feature for the customer to upload files associated the purchase (image to be put on posters they order, for example). Also want ability to make quick changes to all product descriptions and pricing, through a spreadsheet-like interface in the employee section. (need additional level of administration, employee, where individual employees can be given permission to do certain basic tasks on the system – edit customer information, purchase information, quick product update, etc.

Also, integrate the web commerce site with digilabs, http://www.digi-labs.net, a photo book builder that runs on their computer, then uploads to our website.

Requirements Interview Answers:

To help you bid more accurately, the buyer was interviewed about the requirements for this project. Below are their answers.

Project Type: What kind of work do you need done?

Software related (Includes desktop applications and internet websites)

Project Parts: What do you want the seller to do on this project?

Requirements: The seller will analyze the problem and propose a software-based solution to the problem.

Programming: The programmer will take the requirements and translate them into the language of the computer (and test it).

User installation: The installer will move the software from the place it was created (which is called the development or QC environment) to where you will use it (which is called the production environment). The installer then tests the software to make sure that the installation was done properly and completely.

Req. Doc. Type: What kind of documentation do you want for this project?

Formal documentation – After talking back and forth, the seller creates a formal document and/or prototype, as follows:

* Prototype: The analyst will create a non-working mockup of all pages/screens in the final software. Creating a prototype makes it easier for the user to visualize the final software, and reduces misunderstandings.

* Requirements Document: The analyst will create a document describing everything the final software will do (other than what is documented in the prototype…if the buyer required one).

Program Type: What kind of software should the seller create (and/or install)?

* An internet web-site: This software runs on a web server and users will access it using their internet browser.

Internet web-site info

Design and functionality: What does the programming of this project involve?

* Program Functionality: Making the website “work”.

Modeling another site: Do you wish to model another site? No

Size of website: How many pages need to be created/edited in this website?

I don’t know.

Other info:All of the existing pages of nopCommerce need to be changed to the design we have created – home page, product pages, shopping cart, user account pages, everything the client sees. We have all the HTML+CSS code, it just needs to be put into nopCommerce.

new admin/employee pages = 1 (product info quick change)

admin/employee page changes = add new fields as needed to fulfill required features. remove nopCommerce admin features from view that we won’t use (to reduce clutter)

New pages to add = 17-20. these are fully designed, just need to be put into the flow of pages.

Programming Language: What programming language(s) do you want your website written in?

* ASP .NET

Misc. details: nopCommerce, as you know, is written in C#. I don’t mind having new pages written in Visual Basic

Database: Will this project include a database?

Yes, it does include a database.

Details:

* SQL Server — version(s): 2005

Misc. details: The nopCommerce database already has almost everything we need. There are a few fields that need to be added to a few places, but just a few.

Browser Type(s)/Version(s): Which browser/version combinations must this website support?

* IE 7.0

* IE 6.0

* Firefox 3.0

* Firefox 2.0-2.x

* Safari 41

Server Hosting Environment: What is your server hosting environment?

I have a server at a 3rd party hosting company.

The name of the hosting company is: dotcomhost.com

The server’s shared/dedicated status is: Shared with other people.

Component Compatibility Protection:

Sometimes a programmer may create features on the website that rely on componentswhich work fine on their own server, but won’t work with your 3rd party hosting company’s server. There are many reasons for this including version incompatibility, restricted permissions, etc… Rent A Coder normally requires that the programmer verify in advance that your 3rd party hosting provider will support the components. If they do not, then they are responsible for any incompatibilities, rather than you. Do you want this protection on your project?

Yes, I require the programmer to query my hosting company in advance, to ensure that they support all components which the coder uses in the final solution (including supporting the anticipated version #s, allowing components to run under their potentially restricted security model, etc.)

Server Hosting Environment: Will the coder develop “live” on your server?

No. The programmer is responsible for creating their own development and/or qc environment.

Physical installation: Who will perform the physical installation?

The programmer will perform the physical installation, and will be given all necessary permissions to do so.

Legal: 1) I require complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done (so that I may modify it in the future).

2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):

2a) Any website server-side deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer’s environment.

2b) All other software (including but not limited to any desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute) must include a software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request (unless specified elsewhere by the Buyer).

3) All deliverables will be considered “work made for hire” under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.

3b) No part of the deliverable may contain any copyright restricted 3rd party components (including GPL, GNU, Copyleft, etc.) unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the seller’s Seller Legal Agreement.

Other Requirements:

More specifics of the 7 components of the project (some just added on to nopCommerce features, some new):

1. User Accounts:

-prevent same person from creating more than 1 user account=block using same BillingAddress (feature to allow Admin override)

2. Product Manager:

-XML printing code entry/edit –> at end of shopping cart, code generates XML file that is sent to and read by the digital printing press, using their printing codes (MIS).

- need to add printing codes into product manager

3. Design:

Page design has already been created as a static page (html+CSS)–>integrate it into nopcommerce auto-generated code (aspx)

4. Shopping Cart:

-Product page HTML creation with Offset vs. Digital option/pricing = instant update of subtotal price when switching between offset vs. digital option as well as any other options that increase the price. (AJAX or Silverlight)

-also shows live update of “estimated time to ship” using time parameter in product details (which needs to be added).

-safeguard to prevent duplicate order submission

-Invoice generator – invoice to be sent to person managing the job, plus format the invoice on the user account to the specifications in the design pages

5. Artwork/Mailing List Upload:

-user-friendly file upload feature (progress bar, time to finish)

-zip files before upload? (these are large drawing files that often get corrupted. if not zip, solve the corruption problem)

-send file(s) to file server

-generate notification emails to print system and print system operator

-Integrate “please upload artwork/mail list” reminder into User Account main page if system shows artwork/mail list hasn’t been uploaded yet. send email alert notifying need to upload artwork/mailing list

6. Product Info Quick Change:

-integrate into Admin Control Panel

-spreadsheet-type view showing formatted product data to allow quick changes of price or description

-ability to print or download this view

-confirmation page that lists changes made before updating data

-new database table that records/shows the history of changes made

7. Digilabs Product:

http://www.digi-labs.net/

-read and parse code sent from Digilabs photo album software run on home computer

-trigger that launches Digilabs product page with appropriate options selected and tags the artwork file

-artwork upload from Digilabs when contacted by Digilabs software from the home computer

Project Oversight:

I am a web programmer myself and was working on this project but don’t have time to program it myself, so I will just be supervising. I can answer any questions and will make sure the way you’re doing the work fits and is efficient. This will be much easier than interfacing with the management end-users who aren’t programmers. My goal is to help you finish this project in a cost- and time-efficient manner.

I have already made some progress – the header code is complete, as well as a few steps towards creating “employee” accounts, both in the code and a few additions to the databse. I will send all completed code to you for you to start with.
